Dance career short lived for most dancers?

Dance career? Being parents of a dance daughter, the whole family are fully aware that the active career of a dancer is somewhat short-lived. Hence another reason which why we’re also looking to try to build a dance related business for the long-term in order to pass on through the family.

Despite all the training which people do often from the age of 3-years old, plus the money which parents spend on lessons, competitions, festivals even extra lessons all goes towards what would be considered a very short performing career span.

So rather wait 10 years, Sophie and the rest of the family thought we’d get straight to work on building a business or if lucky businesses within the dance industry so that they have time to be developed, become matured and perhaps more importantly recognised by the targeted audience.

Looking at ways to extend a dance career

For many dancers when their time has come and the active part of their performing dance career is over they are at a loss as to what to do next, and often they may go into non related jobs.

Prevention is better than they cure and as such its best to plan ahead now, even if for Sophie operating a business does not work its far better to find out sooner rather than later.

For Sophie being an average 16-year old who has no money (along with her parents now) its hard to try to think of something which does not require a lot of money which is why we decided on trying to build a dance related business on-line because we knew we had certain resources available to us, to at the very least get the basics done first.

It may sound crazy to be thinking of starting a business predominantly for the benefit of someone aged 16 on the onset, but rest assured as a parent who has been at their child’s beck and call for the past 13 years taking them to dance, waiting for them at dance as well as watching them at dance. Its a daunting realisation when they do move on to further dance vocational training and there is nothing dance wise for a parent to do, so when the time comes and opportunity knocks you have to be ready and that’s exactly what Sophie and her parents plan to do – BE READY

One of the quotes which Sophie likes sums up her view and outlook on things is – “Amateurs work until they get it right; Professionals work until they can’t get it wrong.”
